چکیده

We construct a model for the formation of black holes within galactic bulges. The initial state is a slowly rotating isothermal sphere, characterized by effective transport speed aeff and rotation rate Ω. The black hole mass is determined when the centrifugal radius of the collapse flow exceeds the capture radius of the central black hole. This model reproduces the observed correlation between black hole masses and galactic velocity dispersions, Mbh ≈ 10M⊙(σ/200 km s)4, where σ = √ 2aeff . This model also predicts the ratio μB of black hole mass to host mass: μB ≈ 0.004 (σ/200 km s). Subject headings: black hole physics – galaxies: nuclei – galaxies: dynamics

An Observed Fundamental Plane Relation for Supermassive Black Holes

We study observed correlations between supermassive black hole (BHs) and the properties of their host galaxies, and show that the observations define a BH “fundamental plane” (BHFP), of the form MBH ∝ σ3.0±0.3 R0.43±0.19 e or MBH ∝ M 0.54±0.17 ∗ σ 2.2±0.5, analogous to the FP of elliptical galaxies. The BHFP is preferred over a simple relation between MBH and any of σ, M∗, Mdyn, or Re alone at ...

Supermassive Black Holes in Active Galactic Nuclei. I. the Consistency of Black Hole Masses in Quiescent and Active Galaxies

We report the first results of a program to measure accurate stellar velocity dispersions in the bulges of the host galaxies of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) for which accurate black hole (BH) masses have been determined via reverberation mapping. We find good agreement between BH masses obtained from reverberation mapping, and from the M• −σ relation as defined by quiescent galaxies, indicatin...

Correlations between Supermassive Black Holes, Velocity Dispersions, and Mass Deficits in Elliptical Galaxies with Cores1

High-dynamic-range surface photometry in a companion paper makes possible accurate measurement of the stellar light deficits Ldef and mass deficits Mdef associated with the cores of elliptical galaxies. We show that Ldef correlates with the velocity dispersion σ of the host galaxy bulge averaged outside the central region that may be affected by a supermassive black hole (BH). We confirm that L...

The black hole mass , Eddington ratio , and M bh − σ [ O III ] relation in young radio galaxies

The masses of the central supermassive black holes and the Eddington ratios for a sample of 65 young radio galaxies [27 gigahertz-peaked spectrum (GPS) and 38 compact steepspectrum (CSS) sources] are estimated by various methods. We find that the average BH mass of these young radio galaxies is ≃ 8.3, which is less than that of radio loud QSOs and low redshift radio galaxies (≃ ...

A THEORETICAL MODEL FOR THE Mbh-j RELATION FOR SUPERMASSIVE BLACK HOLES IN GALAXIES

We construct a model for black hole formation in galactic bulges. The initial state is a slowly rotating isothermal sphere, with an effective transport speed and rotation rate Q. The black hole mass is determined when the aeff centrifugal radius of the collapse flow exceeds the capture radius of the central black hole. This model reproduces the observed correlation between black hole masses and...
